- the captain of a freighter ship in a dangerous area of space, kasidy has had to fight to hold onto the good things in life, but she does it with confidence, grace, and good humor. she instantly clicks with benjamin sisko after they are introduced by sisko’s son, jake, and they bond especially over a shared love of baseball. kasidy risks everything when her freighter delivers supplies to maquis rebels in the demilitarized zone because she believes they deserve a fighting chance, but when her ship is caught accidentally aiding the maquis in a theft, she lets her maquis-loyal crew escape before taking the fall for them. after spending time in prison, kasidy returns to deep space 9 and she and ben rekindle their relationship. eventually he proposes, she accepts, and she takes her place by the side of one of the most important men in the war against the dominion. kasidy is the very definition of a strong woman, boldly insisting on continuing her freighter runs even when war makes it incredibly dangerous. her persistence and spirited determination to always do what is right is paired with a compassionate devotion to the people she loves, and we end ds9 seeing her step easily into a new role as a mother to jake as well as the child she conceives with benjamin sisko.
